Sterre, Latest Self Portrait (2017), 2 x 3 ft
In this self-portrait, I am reading a book, which I love to do. For me, every page becomes a living and evolving creation, like a painting. I can see and feel everything in my mind as I read the words. They become images in my imagination. This interaction between my creative mind and the story is what I show in this painting.
I keep a pencil and eraser near my hand, just to symbolise that I can erase part of the story or add to it. I can harmonise my creation with that of another artist. In this case, with the author of the book.
My mother, who is a tapestry weaver, really liked this painting. She made a beautiful tapestry based on it that is just the same size as the original. It is included here.
