Restaurant at the end of the universe, 1987, oil on canvas, 90 x 216 cm
Inspired by the book of the same title, the painter has depicted the theme in billboard style. The restaurant is shown as having traveled through space to the future, to the exact moment when the universe is destroyed. The indifference of mankind to this fate is obvious from the expression on the face of the figure, who treats it as just another display of fireworks.
In my first exhibition most of the works dealt with destruction as this was constantly on my mind. The reality of the future was very clear to me, but at that time only a few share this thinking only by a few process was shared, the world in my eyes only whirled on a course of immediate gratification.
Now awareness is spreading for a change in the world to live in harmony with Mother Nature, the race is on, humans will buy more time and live. The world will not be there as we see it today but change is on the way.
My paintings reflect my thoughts at the time of making. Many works have hidden clues for the viewer, sometimes expressing more than one concept. It is for the viewer to discover.
As time in my life passes, my paintings depict the world of thoughts in my head. My creations are my bio-data of growth and change.
My mother, who is a tapestry weaver, really liked this painting. She made a beautiful tapestry based on it that is just the same size as the original. It is included here.
